Trained staff track vital health metrics including blood sugar, blood pressure, weight, and height. Licensed professionals administer and monitor medications throughout the day, keeping participants safe and healthy.

Physical and occupational therapy improve mobility and manage pain as prescribed by a physician. Structured activities including crafts, games, music, and companionship keep participants mentally engaged and emotionally connected.

Two meals and one snack are provided daily by a Registered Dietitian. We monitor, and assist with personal care so participants maintain hygiene, confidence, and independence.

Adult day care is a structured daytime program for older adults and adults with disabilities who need supervision, health monitoring or company during the day. Participants arrive in the morning, spend the day in a staffed center with meals, activities and clinical oversight, and go home to their families every evening. It is not a nursing home and it is not assisted living: nobody lives at the center, and nobody gives up their home to attend.

For the family member doing the caring, that daytime cover is often the difference between keeping a job and leaving one. For the participant, it is the difference between a day alone in a quiet house and a day with meals, movement, conversation and someone watching their blood pressure. Both centers the Foundation works with are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and families can attend a single day a week or every weekday depending on what they need.

The Sender Retreat Foundation exists because the families who need that help most are frequently the ones who cannot pay for it. Long-term care plans, VA benefits and long-term care insurance cover some participants. For everyone else, the Foundation’s Adopt a Senior program pays for the day.

Ana I. Rosa Randolph, MS, RD, LD, has spent more than three decades serving older adults in Volusia County. A Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietitian, she founded the Sender Retreat Foundation in 2022 after more than 20 years operating adult day care centers in DeLand and Orange City. Her work has been recognized with awards from the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce, the Junior League of DeLand, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Ana believes that aging with dignity is not a luxury—it is a community responsibility.

The Sender Retreat Foundation, Inc. is a Florida not-for-profit corporation (document N22000005271, incorporated 9 May 2022) and an IRS 501(c)(3) public charity with EIN 88-2126844. Contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law, and every donor receives a receipt.

The Foundation has no paid employees. Its work is carried out by volunteers, which is why donations go so directly into care: sponsored days at the centers, transportation, two meals and a snack each day, on-site therapies, activities, staff training and program operations. Enrolled eligible participants also receive meals at no separate charge through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program, which sponsors both centers.

We file an annual return with the IRS and an annual report with the Florida Division of Corporations, and both are public. Our largest fundraising event of the year, From Tiny Feet to Golden Years, takes place on 10 October 2026 in partnership with Family Health Source.

The Foundation serves seniors, veterans and adults living with disabilities in Volusia County, Florida, along with the family members who care for them. Participants come from DeLand, Orange City, Deltona, DeBary, Lake Helen and the surrounding West Volusia communities to two licensed centers: Sender Retreat Adult Day Care Center at 1270 Orange Camp Rd in DeLand, and Stay For A Day Adult Day Care at 1001 TownCenter Drive in Orange City.

We welcome people of every background and we prioritize underserved and low-income households. Many participants live with diabetes, limited mobility, memory loss or the effects of a stroke; many of their caregivers are adult children holding down a job, or a spouse who has been providing care alone for years. Each prospective participant is assessed individually — including people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related conditions — so that the program and the environment are genuinely the right fit before anyone enrols.

Support does not stop at the center door. Sender Retreat Cares, a program of the Foundation, is a free caregiver resource center for Volusia County families: local support groups, respite, benefits, meals, transportation and crisis lines, written for the person doing the caring. It is open to anyone, whether or not their loved one attends one of our centers.
